At its peak in 1712, the colony of New France stretched from the shores of the Atlantic to the banks of the Gulf of Mexico. Rivaled by the British and Spanish, France fought to control present day North America. However, it was not to be. By the early 19th Century French territories were under British and American control. Despite this, French language and culture has weathered the test of time and continues to play an intricate role in present day Canada as a legacy of our heritage.
